Reduce Your Environmental Impact This Christmas

Christmas is one of the best times of the year, lots of fun, food and presents. The only downside to Christmas time is that it’s very damaging for the environment. Because of the insane amount of food and gifts we buy, a large amount of rubbish is created from the packaging. Unfortunately, there’s not a great deal you can change about the big rubbish makers, however, making little differences during Christmas can help to reduce the impact your Christmas has on the planet.

All the little things can really make a difference, whether you choose to buyeco gifts rather than ones that are damaging to the environment. However, this can be a bit difficult unless your buyingkitchen accessories orbathroom storage, which tend to not make good presents. Or maybe you opt for something easier like buying recycled wrapping paper.

One of the biggest rubbish makers each year is the common Christmas cracker. Although they are great fun for the 20 seconds you use them, they are a huge waste. When you think about it, they are no good at all for the environment. The entire thing is made of paper and cardboard which is thrown away as soon as your down. As for the inside, normally a novelty gift made of plastic, which after 10 minutes gets thrown away.

Fortunately, if you’ve got the spare time, you can make your own crackers. Although there are many shops that offer eco-friendly crackers, why not make your own and go all the way. You also have the advantage of putting your own prizes in, no more dice.

Don’t be turned off at the idea of crearting your own crackers, they are quite simple. The majority of the equipment needed you’ll find around your home. Take the cardboard inner shell, it’s the easiest item to get hold of, simply use empty toilet rolls. The only thing you should need to buy from the shop would be the snappers, that is unless would want silent crackers.

There are many guides you can find on the internet that help you make your own crackers.If only everyone did these little things each year, the environment would be less damaged after the Christmas holiday season.
